Fall '09
Fall 2009 started off with a bang. We nearly doubled our chapter size by picking up 22 new members by recruiting with our seven core values. With these 22 new guys, we were able to assign some of them as an understudy officer, where they will work closely with an officer to train for this new position and potentially become an officer with the skills they will learn. Immediately after Rush week, we kicked off Watermelon Bust. As of 9-26-09, we have raised just under 3 tons of food and $5,787 with the help of the ladies from Alpha Omicron Pi, Kappa Delta, Tri Delta, Phi Mu, and Tri Sigma. This semester has also been packed with monthly brotherhood events. This past month, we had a bowling brotherhood event at Lafayette Lanes. Just recently, we had a social with Tri Sigma at The Grand movie theater. Additionally, we just had our brotherhood retreat in Bogalusa, LA. It was during Fall Break, which allowed us to camp out a little longer. Recently, we had our ELC visit from Chris Cole. We had a great time having him, and it's probably safe to say that it's the best ELC visit we've had in a long time. Chris came with some great ideas for the chapter and brought a fresh, new perspective to things.
Summer '09
Summer 2009 showed a big turnaround for the chapter. The High Zeta met every week, including a High Zeta retreat in Slidell at Brother Rancatore’s house. This allowed the High Zeta to become very close with each other and many goals were completed because of it. We had many rush events this summer, including: Tiki Tubing trips to Denham Springs, LA on the Amite River; BBQ’s every Monday; and attending orientations to meet incoming freshmen. The High Zeta enacted an incentive program to hold everyone accountable, that is, brothers will be rewarded for attending events and participating and fined for lack of participation. We also paid off a good portion of debt to nationals as well. Just recently, Brother Banner and his father remodeled the kitchen, and it looks brand new. Also, Brother Logan Bourgeois was our delegate to the Centennial Event in Indianapolis, IA. His trip was sponsored by Iota Omega 1 himself, Donald Ray Bealer. Brother Bourgeois came back to us with a wealth of knowledge and excitement to bestow upon the chapter.
Spring '09
Spring 2009 was very eventful for the chapter. We had just initiated 6 men, plus one honorary initiate, Mark Merrett. With the six undergraduate men, five of them became members of the High Zeta. One of our brothers, Dominick Rancatore, had just come back from service in Iraq in April. With his leadership as High Beta, we were able to attain and accomplish many tasks and goals. We had our semesterly Brotherhood Retreat in Pearl River, MS. Many new improvements were made to the fraternity house, inside and out. Brother Blake Banner, our new High Iota and House Manager, had his father donate his services to repair the roof from Hurricane Gustav damage. We had a joint golf tournament in Crowley with Phi Mu, which was profitable. Towards the end of the semester, we had a formal at The Petroleum Club in Lafayette. Many brothers and their families, as well as Donald Ray Bealer made a showing. At the end, we initiated 3 men: Travis Adams, Phil Hedrick, and Cameron Fenney. Phil is now our High Tau, and is doing his job very well.
