About Us

Picture
Here at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, we were founded on May 5, 1962 by Iota-Omega 1, Donald Ray Bealer. Since then, we've remained in good standing with the university, never being thrown off campus. At Iota Omega, we've initiated 790 men since the founding of our chapter.

Every semester we have Brotherhood retreats and events. We participate in IFC and intramural sports such as Football, Basketball, and Softball. In Fall 2008, we were IFC football champs. We have bid night parties at the beginning of each semester, as well as BBQ's that are usually weekly. We have semesterly philanthropies such as Watermelon Bust, the Duck Race for the Boys & Girls club of Acadiana, and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes. To learn more about each individual philanthropy, click here.

In addition to the things we do listed above, we do specific things each semester. In the Fall, we have many events that keep us busy, first of which is Tailgating. Every Fall we reserve a spot for the chapter to go tailgate at Cajun Field and we have a great time cooking all kinds of food, from jambalaya to BBQ. Later in the semester, we have our Homecoming week events. We build a float all semester that we ride in a parade on Homecoming Day. There are games, skits and general fun to be had during the week that the chapter participates in. Then we roll right into Watermelon Bust, our main philanthropy. The event raises food and money for the NAFD (North American Food Drive). It is also incorporated with the five Sororities on campus where they help us raise food and money, and then the week culminates with a field day that involves field games and events. Watermelon Bust '09 raised over $6000 and almost 3 tons of food.

In the Spring, we have Greek Week. All the Greeks compete with each other with events similar to to Homecoming week, and we conclude with a field day and mixer that incorporate all the Sororities and Fraternities.
